ALTAR SERVERS

Altar Servers have a geniune and vital role in the liturgical assembly. They assist the priest at the altar during Masses and other special services. Altar Servers bring a fuller understanding of the liturgy and a greater love for God to the parish community. At San Rafael the server should be a fourth grader or older, be Baptized and have received the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Penance, attend Mass regularly, and be alert and a team player. The parish Sacristan provides individual training upon request. Call (858)487-4314, ext. 1227. To follow-up on this, we ask that all servers attend a mandatory meeting, usually in September of each year, to refresh them on altar procedures.

HEART TO HEART UGANDA PROJECT

There have been over 2 million children orphaned by AIDS since it was first diagnosed in Uganda, one of the world’s most affected countries. There are very few prospects for children who are dependent upon extended families or the limited number of facilities for orphans. There are virtually no resources for orphans, particularly girls, aged 15 or older. For these children, life offers little more than poverty and exploitation. One exception is the Orphans Welfare Project run by the Catholic Diocese of Mbarara. The Orphans Welfare Project provides safe room, board, clothes and an education for AIDS orphans in their teens, especially the girls. The objective is to provide them with a secondary education enabling them to attend vocational training after high school. The cost per child is less than a dollar a day - $350 (US) per year. The Heart to Heart Uganda Project assists the orphans of Mbarara Diocese by soliciting donations to support the care and education of these children. (P
